The Many Benefits of Using Blue Poly Tarps

The Many Benefits of Using Blue Poly Tarps

Sarah Louise BrownOctober 9, 2024April 29, 2023

Everybody knows what a blue tarpaulin is. They are available usually with grommets in many different sizes and are rather inexpensive. Blue tarpaulins have numerous uses around the workplace and the house in addition to hunting trips, boating, and camping. They are flexible, water resistant, and lightweight. They can be used for protection for diverse items such as designer carpets, delicate flower bulbs, motorcycles, and lawn furniture.

These tarps are very light in weight, and will give great protection temporarily from sun and water damage under many different conditions and circumstances. Some times, when painting is being done, they will be used to protect flooring and furniture. It is important for the consumer to understand the specific applications the blue tarps were designed for so that they can be sure they are choosing the best tarp that they require.

Blue tarpaulins weren’t designed for long term covering requirements. They were only designed to be used as a temporary cover. They are certainly easy to use and lightweight, but they won’t provide protection for the long term. If there is an item that needs to be covered for more than three months, a better selection would be a heavy duty tarpaulin. Heavy duty tarps are thicker and made with significantly thicker fabric which makes them more water resistant and durable.

The blue coating in blue tarps will start to breakdown in short time as a result of inclimate weather and exposure to sunlight. Under most circumstances blue tarpaulins will provide great protection in the short term, they shouldn’t be used to withstand inclimate weather, rough treatment, or for protection for long periods of time.

Blue tarpaulins shouldn’t be used to cover materials or loads that have sharp edges, like glass, tree branches, rocks, concrete, wire, or steel. Blue tarps are made from a material that isn’t designed to withstand that kind of treatment. When the wind moves the blue tarp will not stand up against sharp edges, the material will tear and rip exposing your items to the rain and the sun.

Without having to build a structure a lumber tarpaulin will protect an item that has sharp edges. These tarps are designed specifically for use covering truck loads of lumber and over piles of wood. They are made with seams that are heat treated and heavy gauge material and will hold up better to the rough nature of the items that they are covering. A lumber tarpaulin will resist the tears from branches and twigs to keep your wood secure and dry. Depending on the application, there are many different kinds of heavy duty and lumber tarps to select from.

Many people simply throw away their worn out or otherwise damaged blue tarps. However, actually they are made from a polyethylene woven plastic that can be recycled in same way that milk jugs and plastic soda bottles are recycled. Although a blue tarpaulin is very useful, it won’t last forever.

You should have an understanding of a blue tarp’s limitations and a realistic expectation of what they can do to make sure that your possessions will be protected. The blue poly tarp however,is a very low cost way of covering up your assets for a short period of time.
