Different Uses For Grip Tape

Sarah Louise BrownMarch 27, 2025April 29, 2023

Grip tape is one of those things that you can never have enough of. This is because you can use it for a lot of different things. It doesn’t have to just be used to make sure people don’t slip on surfaces.

It is one of those things that hardware stores always have enough of because they know that it sells and they know that they can order as much as they want and it will not go to waste.

If you are wondering what you could possibly need grip tape for, then you have come to the right place. Read on so you can learn about it and how versatile it really is.

Kennels

You are probably thinking, ‘did I read that right?’ Yes, you did. People who make kennels use grip tape for the roof of the kennel. They use it because it is thick and waterproof, and it is easy to install.

Obviously, there is wood underneath the grip tape otherwise it wouldn’t be suitable. So, builders will make a wooden roof and then they will just tape over the wood. It is as simple as that.

This option is cheaper than painting a roof, so it is cost effective and it will last for a long time, whereas paint will wear away and the builder will end up painting multiple times during the year.

Sheds

The same can be said for sheds. They have installed on their roof as well, but for slightly different reasons. It is cost effective, and it will last a long time, just like mentioned above, but it also acts as grip when people climb on it.

Most sheds are made with a flat roof, especially if it is installed near to the home. This is so it can serve a purpose other than to store garden furniture. People will stand on the shed to do work on the house or on fence, or even to cut old branches off trees. This saves them from having to use a ladder.

Ladders

This is the perfect time to mention ladders because it is used in the manufacture of ladders as well. Most ladders are made of metal or wood and the steps are either flat or round.

Manufacturers know that ladders need to be used in all weather, so they have started putting grip tape on the edges of their ladder steps, so that people don’t slip and fall when they are using it.

Garage

In cities, people have grip tape on the roof of their garages because it is a cost effective way of making the garage waterproof. Furthermore, it makes it easy for the garage owner to get onto the roof to do repairs.

Skateboarders

You might be wondering what a skateboarder needs with grip tape because if they put tape on their obstacles, then they are not going to move. Well, think about that for a second and the answer might come to you.

Did you get it? No? Well, they use grip tape on the top of the boards themselves. This is to make sure that their shoes can grip the board when they are doing their tricks.

Professional skateboarders will buy their grip tape separately from their skateboard because they want to apply it themselves to make sure it lasts a bit longer on their professional board. Skateboards from the toy store will break within a few uses for a professional boarder.
